WITH World Cup 2026 about to start, scammers are ramping up their efforts to part fans with their money.
From fake FIFA websites to suspicious “last chance” ticket offers, Episode 5 of ‘Collared’ examines the fraud which accompanies the world’s biggest sporting event.

The episode dives into how criminals are using AI to carry out scams on an industrial scale, and examines what authorities are doing to combat it.
In addition, this episode of ‘Collared’ also looks at financial crime in European football, the global power centre of the sport.
Carlo Boffa, AML Intelligence’s EU Correspondent, examines how match fixing and money laundering scandals have triggered tougher oversight of clubs.
Teams and agents are set to come under AML (anti-money laundering regulations) in the coming years.
It means that clubs will now have to more closely vet who they’re doing business with when buying and selling players, to ensure they’re not dealing with criminals or sanctioned entities.
