HOW undercover police officers trace terrorist transactions and the workings of EU law enforcement agency Europol are the focus in Episode 4 of ‘Collared’.

It is available right now on:

The latest podcast from AML Intelligence features an in-depth interview with Tommas Kaplan, Managing Partner at consulting firm TURN Advisory.

Kaplan started his professional career as a detective inspector focusing on terror probes while working undercover in Frankfurt.

He tells ‘Collared’ how he gained the trust of suspects and how police traced financial transactions to crack terror networks.

He also discusses 24 hour stakeouts and how terror supporters would steal tens of thousands of euro in cash from business conferences.

In addition, Jean Phillippe Lecouffe, Deputy Executive of Operations at Europol, gave a detailed interview on the workings of the agency.

He lays out what Europol is and how it works, co-ordinating with local and regional law enforcement operations.

He also discusses how international and inter-agency coordination is crucial to tackling financial crimes such as money laundering, which does not recognise international borders.

Episode 4 comes after last week’s episode featured an interview with Jim Lee, former Chief at IRS-CI (Criminal Investigation), and an explainer on the FATF (Financial Action Task Force) ‘grey’ and ‘black’ lists.
