Heads of financial intelligence units (FIUs) are demanding that the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units, their industry body and group platform, come to their aid as pressures grow on their ability to maintain their independence.
Over the past two years, at least eight heads of FIUs have either had their terms cut short or efforts at re-appointment stalled. Many others have spoken of threats from political and business entities.
