Panamanian President refuses to sign current crypto law as he pledges to tighten controls on dirty money

The President of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo has said he will not sign a bill that regulates the use of cryptocurrency until it contains stronger anti-money laundering (AML) controls.

Last month, the bill was passed by the nation’s legislative assembly, which improves cryptocurrency exchanges’ ability to get licenses to operate in the country and regulates transactions involving digital currencies.
