A leading financial expert has warned that an increased prevalence in shadow banks and patchy regulatory oversight could threaten the global economy. 

Ruchir Sharma, Chair of Rockefeller International, revealed that shadow banks – non-bank financial institutions which provide banking services outside normal banking regulations – have surged in popularity across the globe, in an opinion piece for the Financial Times.
