Head of Latvian FIU says AML is ‘no longer just a matter of financial integrity’ and says new EU AML package and AMLA are ‘critical building blocks’ in the right direction

The Director of FIU Latvia, Ilze Znotina has said that AML is “no longer just a matter of financial integrity” and emphasised fighting FinCrime is a matter of “European security as a whole.”

Speaking to the European Parliament’s ECON and LIBE Committees on the EU AML Package, Ms Znotina warned that a gap in a single jurisdiction in the bloc “opens all of Europe up” to not just crime but dirty money is “increasingly used to support hybrid warfare operations” by adversaries.
