AMLi NEWS UPDATE: Tougher EU AML rules coming as part of move to centralise the fight against dirty money, says Commission finance chief

THE DG of the European Commission’s finance division has said the bloc will move towards regulations rather than directives in shaping Europe’s AML system – in a major departure from previous policy.

John Berrigan said that after six money laundering directives issued over 20 years, the focus would now shift to regulations that have greater and more immediate impact.
