THE U.S. Treasury is urging whistleblowers to report potential money laundering and sanctions violations linked to Iran.
FinCEN, the Treasury’s finanacial crimes unit, has issued a new Whistleblower Bulletin in support of “Operation Economic Outcast”, calling for information about possible violations of U.S. financial crime and sanctions laws.
The agency maintains a “whistleblower incentive program” that allows members of the public to report potential violations of certain laws enforced by the U.S.
FinCEN said whistleblowers “may be eligible for awards if the information they provide leads to a successful enforcement action by Treasury or DOJ that results in the collection of monetary penalties exceeding $1,000,000.”

The bulletin also seeks information about violations that may involve “Iranian proxies and facilitators operating outside of Iran”.
FinCEN bureau also warned that it is prepared to take enforcement action against foreign companies supporting “illicit Iranian commerce”.
It said it may also act against foreign financial institutions and companies that facilitate Iran’s activities when those activities violate the BSA or U.S. sanctions laws.
