HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group and NatWest have joined a coalition to help develop what its creator says will be the UK’s first sovereign frontier AI model.

British AI startup Cosine said the banks have signed memorandums of understanding to co-design Lumen Sovereign. The large language model will operate without relying on U.S. cloud infrastructure or AI providers.
