INSIGHT: The UK ‘Modern Slavery Act’ has not delivered – banks must help change that

TEN years ago, the United Kingdom did something genuinely bold.

The Modern Slavery Act 2015 was hailed as the most ambitious anti-slavery legislation in the world: it created a dedicated independent commissioner, imposed transparency obligations on large businesses, and announced, loudly, that Britain was serious about eradicating forced labour and human trafficking.
