LATEST: US regulators order banks to search for ‘debanked’ Republicans, threaten penalties

US regulators have ordered banks to search for any instances of ‘debanking’ amid a Trump-directed clampdown on the issue.

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has asked the nine largest banks it supervises for records covering several years. It said the move aimed to “end the weaponization of the financial system.”
