JOHN Hurley has officially taken office as the US Treasury’s Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence (TFI) after being confirmed by the Senate.

The new fincrime and terrorist financing chief said it was “a great honor and privilege to serve as Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at such a crucial time for the United States.”

Mr Hurley said he was “extraordinarily grateful to President Trump and Secretary Bessent for their trust and leadership.”

“I look forward to working with Secretary Bessent as we seek to advance the Trump Administration’s national security and policy goals and protect our financial system from abuse by terrorists, drug traffickers, cyber criminals, and other illicit actors.”

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said: “I am thrilled to have John on the team as Treasury’s Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.”

“John’s extensive private sector experience, military service, and previous service on President Trump’s Intelligence Advisory Board make him uniquely qualified to serve the American people in this very important role,” he added.

Mr Hurley was officially confirmed by the Senate on July 23.

Before assuming his duties at TFI, Mr. Hurley was the Managing Partner of Cavalry Asset Management.  Based in San Francisco, Cavalry invests primarily in publicly traded technology companies.

From 2018 to 2021, he served on President Trump’s Intelligence Advisory Board.  He was also a Lecturer in Finance at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he taught the Investment Course, and is chair of the History Department Advisory Board at Princeton.

Mr. Hurley graduated with honors from Princeton in 1986 and was Chairman of the Daily Princetonian. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and served for five years in the U.S. Army.  During the First Gulf War, as a battalion fire direction officer for the First Cavalry Division, he was awarded the Bronze Star.
