NICOLAS Vasse has been appointed as the Executive Director at the EU’s new Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA).

The watchdog said Mr Vasse will formally assume his role in September 2025.

In his position, he will be responsible for the “day-to-day management of the Authority”, AMLA said.

This includes the implementation of the organization’s budget, oversight of human resources, and execution of operational activities.

Mr Vasse said: “ “I am truly honored to take on this role at such a crucial time. I thank the Board for their trust.

“It is a privilege and a responsibility I truly value to help fight financial crime and build this new European authority.

He added: “I look forward to this new adventure—and to working closely with EU and national authorities to make Europe safer and stronger.”

AMLA Chair Bruna Szego said the organization is “thrilled to welcome Mr Vasse to our leadership team”.

“His experience and vision align strongly with our goals,” she said.

“He will be an excellent sparring partner in ensuring that AMLA operates efficiently, transparently, and in full accordance with its mandate. Both during the build-up phase and once fully operational.”

Nicolas Vasse pre-AMLA roles

Mr Vasse has over 20 years of experience across various EU agencies. These include the ESMA (European Securities and Markets Authority) and the SRB (Single Resolution Board).

He is currently a partner at Promontory, an IBM Consulting entity

“Mr Vasse brings deep expertise in the EU financial regulatory framework, and the operational management of EU bodies,” AMLA said.

“He has advised major European banks on complex regulatory and supervisory challenges.

The regulator added: “He previously served for more than a decade as Head of Operations at ESMA.

“This background positions him well to support the AMLA Executive Board in steering core decisions related to planning, budgeting, IT, and security. As well as in overseeing the Authority’s daily operations.”
