THE founder of a U.S.-based cryptocurrency payments company has been charged with laundering over $500 million for sanctioned Russian banks and other entities.

Iurii Gugnin, a 38-year-old Russian national living in Manhattan, was arrested on Monday. A judge ordered him held without bail, pending trial.
