NEWS: Europol chief Catherine de Bolle and EU financial services DG John Berrigan to receive top awards at ‘European Anti-Financial Crime Summit 2025’

By PAUL O’DONOGHUE, Senior Correspondent

TWO influential European leaders will be honoured at the ‘European Anti-Financial Crime Summit 2025’ in Dublin next week.

At #EAFCS2025 taking place across May 6 and 7, Catherine de Bolle, Executive Director at Europol and John Berrigan, Director General of DG FISMA at the European Commission, will receive separate awards for their exemplary public service.

Ms de Bolle will be presented with the inaugural ‘John O’Driscoll Award for International Co-Operation’ by Ireland’s Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan.

The award is in memory of the late former Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll, an outstanding police detective, who successfully spearheaded the international police investigation targeting the Kinihan transnational organized crime group.

His widow Muriel said she was “honoured and proud” that his memory was being marked with the award.“

“This perpetual award, created to honour John’s memory by recognising law-enforcement professionals at home or abroad, who continue the fight against crime, helps ensure his legacy of dedication, resilience and an enduring commitment to peace lives on,” said Muriel.

Mr Berrigan, who leads the financial services directorate at the European Commission, will receive the ‘AML Champion’ distinction in a presentation from Eurogroup President Paschal Donohoe.

Among his many achievements in financial services, Mr Berrigan has played a pivotal role in guiding the EU’S new AML laws, including the AML Authority (AMLA) from concept to operation.

The summit will also feature keynote addresses from the likes of Bruna Szego, the Chair of the EU’s new AML Authority (AMLA).

Some 700 C-suite and decision-maker AFC, AML and fraud delegates in banking, fintech, crypto, policy and law enforcement are set to descend on the Irish capital across May 6 and 7 for the summit.
