NEWS: Lithuania fines Olympic Casino €8.4M for AML failures

By PAUL O’DONOGHUE, Senior Correspondent

THE gaming regulator in Lithuania has fined Olympic Casino Group Baltija €8.4 million ($9.2 million) for failing to prevent a former fund manager at private equity firm BaltCap from gambling millions in stolen money.

Authorities arrested Šarūnas Stepukonis, a former BaltCap partner, in February 2024. They suspect he embezzled €42 million from the private equity firm. Prosecutors also believe he lost around €38 million at land-based and online casinos.
