Sixth Defendant Pleads Guilty for Role in Conspiracy to Launder Tens of Millions of Dollars in Illicit Cash Proceeds

A Brazilian man pleaded guilty yesterday to conspiring to launder the proceeds of drug trafficking, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida accepted the guilty plea today. On June 1, the district court also accepted the guilty pleas of five co-defendants.
According to court documents, Omar Aliperti De Mello Correa, 34, a U.S. citizen residing in Orlando; Ygor Fokin Saviolli, 35, a Brazilian national; Gabriel Cezar Menezes, 29, a Brazilian national; Joao Andrade De Mello, 29, a Brazilian national; Tadeu Sebastiane Rabelo Alves Barbosa, 30, a Brazilian national; and Leandro De Avila Goncalves, 42, a Brazilian national, all illegally residing in Orlando, were part of a sophisticated money laundering organization that operated across the United States and spanned several countries.

This public-private initiative supports the continued strength and resilience of the U.S. financial system in an era of accelerating technological change.
“The global economy is undergoing a period of rapid transformation with breakthrough advances in AI,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. “The AI Innovation Series discussions reinforced that countries that deploy this technology most effectively will shape the next era of growth, and under the guidance of President Trump, America will continue to lead the way. We will continue working with the financial sector to ensure that regulatory approaches keep pace with technological developments and enable responsible AI adoption that enhances the strength of the U.S. financial system.”
Building Trust, Enhancing Integrity: A New Chapter in the EU’s Fight Against Financial Crime

On 9 June 2026, AMLA held its first conference at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt am Main. Under the theme “Building Trust, Enhancing Integrity: A New Chapter in the EU's Fight Against Financial Crime,” AMLA brought together a broad range of partners involved in Europe’s response to money laundering and terrorist financing, including supervisors, financial intelligence units, the private sector, law enforcement, academia, and EU bodies and international institutions.
The programme included keynote speeches and three thematic panels with discussions focusing on key topics shaping the AML/CFT agenda. In addition to over 360 guests attending from all 27 Member States and beyond the EU, hundreds of participants followed the conference online via the livestream.
