NEWS: UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office warns Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) should not be regarded as a ‘silver bullet’ in new guidance

The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has warned that Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) should not be regarded as a “silver bullet” for data protection compliance. 

In new guidance, the ICO stressed that firms’ processing of client data needs to be “lawful, fair and transparent,” and has requested the companies perform a “case-by-case assessment” to determine if PETs are appropriate.
