The European Union is set to unleash the “harshest” package of sanctions “ever implemented” on Russia, as the country’s troops descend on neighbouring Ukraine.

In a press conference this morning, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen condemned the “barbaric attack” by Russia on Ukraine.
