US man pleads guilty to running bitcoin-laundering service in $300 Million crypto operation

By Elizabeth Hearst for AMLi

A US man has pleaded guilty to laundering hundreds of millions of dollars in cryptocurrency, and agreed to surrender more than 4,400 Bitcoins, currently valued at more than $200 Million.

Larry Dean Harmon owned and operated a ‘Darknet’ search engine called Grams, before operating a money laundering service called ‘Helix’. This service enabled customers to “send Bitcoins to designated recipients in a manner which was designed to conceal and obfuscate the source or owner of the Bitcoins”, according to court documents.
