United States SEC chief Gary Gensler calls for tighter crypto regulations as a result of sector ‘rife with fraud, scams and abuse’

The newly appointed chairman of the US’ Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said that investors in the cryptocurrency market need more protection which he described as “rife with fraud, scams and abuse.”

Gary Gensler, appointed by President Joe Biden to lead the body that regulates securities markets, highlighted areas where cryptocurrency needed to be regulated especially, with regards to money laundering, sanctions, tax collection and extortion via ransomware.
