INSIGHT: ‘Low risk, high reward.’ Environmental crime generates billions in dirty money annually and most countries have not gotten serious about the risk involved – FATF

As much as $281BN in criminal profits are generated each year from environmental crime, according to the latest estimate from the Financial Action Task Force.

This major issue is compounded by the fact that environmental crime features rarely in national risks assessments, meaning countries don’t know how vulnerable they are, or cooperate to stamp the practice out.
