Malta imposes over €4.6 Million in fines for failures in anti-money laundering regimes

Malta

The Maltese Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) issued more than €4.6 Million in administrative penalties for AML failures in 2020, as the country attempts to clean up its image as a nation soft on financial crime.

Investment firms were the hardest hit by the authority, with fines of over €1.3 Million slapped on relevant bodies, following supervisory examinations by the Maltese FIAU in 2020.
