Vatican Bank’s former chief faces nine years in prison after being convicted of money laundering in real estate scandal; Holy See revamps AML structure

The former head of the Vatican Bank faces nearly nine years in prison after his conviction in a state court this week on charges of embezzlement and money laundering.

It marks the first-ever time that a Vatican court has issued a prison sentence to somebody for financial crime charges, and it’s the latest development in the city-state’s efforts to get tough on movers of dirty money.
