Alban Genais, 39, holds a degree in history from the University of Nantes, is a graduate of Sciences Po Paris and is a former student of ENA (Louise Weiss’ promotion, 2016-2017).
Initially an administrator on the National Assembly’s Law Committee (2008-2015), he was assigned to the General Inspectorate of Finance on leaving ENA in 2018. In June 2019, he was appointed policy officer to the head of the department. In January 2021, he became Inspector of Finance 1st class and joined the Treasury Department, where he was appointed Financial Adviser to the Permanent Representation of France to the European Union.
In 2018, appointed rapporteur for the mission entrusted by the Minister for the Economy on crypto-currencies, he collaborated on the Landau report on crypto-currencies.
He has also taught public finance, public law and economics at Paris I and Sciences Po (IEP Paris).
Alban Genais’s work at the Ministry of the Economy and Finance – first at the General Inspection of Finance, then at the Treasury Department- has involved him in all aspects of AML/FT policy, from preparing the evaluation of the French system by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to negotiating the legislative package proposed by the European Commission under the French Presidency of the European Union (PFUE).
Appointed deputy director of Tracfin by the order of 16 May 2022 (published in the JORF of 17 May 2022), Alban Genais has been acting director since 29 February 2024 (order of 28 February 2024 published in the JORF of 29 February 2024).
