Mr Giuseppe Lopez is a highly accomplished professional with a distinguished career in law enforcement and economic-financial crime investigation. With a strong educational background and extensive leadership experience, he has made significant contributions to the fields of tax law, corporate law, and financial crime prevention.
Mr Lopez holds multiple advanced degrees, including a Master’s degree in International Tax Law from Libera Università Maria Ss. Assunta in Rome (2019) and a Master’s degree in Tax Law from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan (2015-2017). Additionally, he has a Master’s degree in Corporate Law from the National Administration School, Italy (2014-2015), and undergraduate degrees in Political Science, Economics, and Law from prestigious Italian universities.
Professionally, Mr Lopez has held various high-ranking positions within the Guardia di Finanza.
From March 2026 onwards, Mr Lopez will serve as the Head of Department at the European Financial & Economic Crime Centre at Europol.
Previously, he served as the Provincial Commander (Colonel) of Guardia di Finanza in Pescara (September 2024 – February 2026) and the Commander of the Anti-money laundering Investigation Group (Colonel) in Rome (August 2021 – August 2024), coordinating multiple units and overseeing both strategic and operational activities.
Mr Lopez’s career includes significant roles in international cooperation and corporate crime investigation, focused on tax evasion, fraud, and money laundering. Between 2006 and 2013, he held successive leadership roles within the Guardia di Finanza General HQ, managing international relations with foreign police forces, law enforcement agencies, and European institutions.
Earlier in his career, Mr Lopez served as Commander of Mineral Oils and Alcohol Excises Sections in Bari and as Commander of the Lieutenancy in Cervia, managing resources and economic-financial operations.
With a wealth of experience and a strong educational foundation, Mr Giuseppe Lopez is proficient in English, Spanish, and Italian, which enhances his abilities to collaborate effectively in international settings.
