OFFICIALS from the U.S. and Mexico co-hosted the first meeting of TOC-WG, a new group of 16 FIUs set up to fight international crime gangs.
FinCEN, the AML unit of the U.S. Treasury, said the TOC-WG (Transnational Organized Crime Working Group) is dedicated to international cooperation.
“The TOC-WG includes representatives from 16 FIUs (financial intelligence units) across the world,” it said. “[They] are committed to working together to enhance their collective ability to identify and disrupt transnational organized crime.”
FinCEN said the TOC-WG is co-hosted by itself and and Mexico’s Unidad de Inteligencia Financiera.
Other participants in the TOC-WG include the FIUs of
- Argentina
- Australia
- Belgium
- Brazil
- Canada
- Costa Rica
- Italy
- The Netherlands
- Spain
- Switzerland
- The UK
- Uruguay
The move to establish the TOC-WG comes as the U.S. has increasingly focused on international financial crime which impacts Americans.
However, it has also cut staff and funding for many fincrime agencies, including FinCEN.
