LATEST: AUSTRAC warns banks – job cuts are no excuse for weaker AML controls

AUSTRAC, Australia’s financial crime watchdog, has warned major banks that job cuts must not undermine AML (anti-money laundering) standards.

Brendan Thomas, chief executive of AUSTRAC, warned that it will escalate oversight if standards slip. Banks have recently announced nearly 6,000 job losses across the sector.
