NEWS: Malta fines gambling company Stanleybet over AML failings

Valetta in Malta

By PAUL O’DONOGHUE, Senior Correspondent

STANLEYBET Malta Limited has been fined €225,000 after regulators found “lax” AML controls, following a review by the country’s FIAU (Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit).

The FIAU imposed the fine along with daily penalties of €2,000. The sanctions followed a targeted review of the company’s operations last year. Stanleybet, which runs betting shops outside Malta, showed “systemic failures” in how it monitored customer activity.
