TOP Austrian officials from the country’s FIU (financial intelligence unit) are aiming to increase cooperation on crypto with U.S. fincrime agency FinCEN.

The two organizations met in Washington D.C., as part of a series of face-to-face meetings organized by the FATF (Financial Action Task Force).

  • FinCEN Issues Financial Trend Analysis on Ransomware

    WASHINGTON—Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) is issuing a Financial Trend Analysis on ransomware incidents in Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) data between 2022 and 2024, which totaled more than $2.1 billion in ransomware payments. “Banks and other financial institutions play a key role in protecting our economy from ransomware and other cyber threats,” said FinCEN Director Andrea Gacki. “By quickly reporting suspicious activity under the Bank Secrecy Act, they provide law enforcement with critical information to help detect cybersecurity trends that can damage our economy. This work is vital to safeguarding our nation’s financial sector and strengthening our national security.”

    A federal grand jury in the Western District of Oklahoma returned an indictment yesterday charging the former President and Chief Executive Officer of the First National Bank of Lindsay for his role in a conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, making false entries in the books and records of a financial institution, obstructing the examination of a financial institution and failing to implement an anti-money laundering program.

    FINTRAC announced today that it has imposed an administrative monetary penalty on Griffin Jewellery Designs Inc. Following a compliance examination, Griffin Jewellery Designs Inc., a full-service jewellery retailer with 21 locations across Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, was imposed an administrative monetary penalty of $77,137.50 on October 17, 2025, for non-compliance with Part 1 of the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and associated Regulations.
