NEWS: Nobel laureate warns stablecoins risk costly taxpayer bailouts

JEAN Tirole, a Nobel Prize-winning economist, has warned that weak oversight of stablecoins could force governments into multibillion-dollar bailouts.

The 2014 Nobel economics laureate said he was “very, very worried” about how stablecoins are supervised. He if the tokens collapse in a financial crisis, a run could occur if doubts arose about the reserves backing them.
