REAL estate agents and brokers must verify the ID of home buyers in Canada from October 1, 2025, under new AML (anti-money laundering) rules.

FINTRAC, the country’s FIU (financial intelligence unit), said the move is aimed at addressing money laundering and terrorist financing. It is also intended to stop increasing fraud in real estate transactions.
