Global Chief Compliance Officer – AXA, UK

The Global Chief Compliance Officer will lead the Legal and Compliance teams across the Division to ensure compliance with local laws, rules and regulations and AXA Group Standards.

You will report to General Counsel for AXA XL.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Ensure technical, effective, and consistent compliance support and oversight is provided to Business Units and Functions across the division
  • Understand and inform the AXA XL’s business strategy, helping to mitigate against business threats and keeping operations in compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements
  • Develop the Division’s annual Compliance Framework and Programme and monitor compliance
  • Work with Business Leaders and Boards to ensure that legal entities in the division have a compliance and monitoring programme in place to aid compliance with the relevant local regulatory requirements
  • Provide appropriate and timely reporting on compliance and regulatory issues to the General Counsel, Business Leaders, relevant Boards and Committees and AXA Group as required
  • Lead on significant initiatives/projects, aligned to business strategy and priorities, and working effectively with colleagues across the division as needed
  • Ensure strong, transparent, and effective relationships with regulators across jurisdictions, working closely with regional Business Leaders
  • Liaise with industry bodies where appropriate on compliance and regulatory issues, to advance and protect the interest of the Company
  • Be an active contributor to the leadership of the Legal & Compliance function as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Lead a highly motivated and proactive global team of compliance colleagues, which is focused on delivery effective and timely advice on compliance and regulatory risk management. Provide engagement and support, through colleague learning and development, talent management and performance management processes and practices, that are aligned to company philosophy and culture.
  • Drive a culture within the team of continuous improvement and innovation, focused on superior service to customers, operational effectiveness and strong awareness of expense management
  • Oversee the design and deliver effective compliance training and communications to colleagues across the Division as required, to ensure compliance risk is managed
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Risk Management, Internal Audit, HR and Legal where necessary to coordinate monitoring, activities and advice to the business
  • Keep pace with changes to legislation, regulations and market practice, responding to regulatory consultations

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Proven track record of leading a large compliance team within the (re)insurance sector
  • In-depth understanding of the insurance market and market practices globally
  • Comprehensive understanding of compliance, regulatory issues in an international context
  • Experience of dealing with regulatory authorities at the most senior levels
  • Possess excellent analytical skills and ability to formulate and execute compliance and regulatory strategy, and to apply requirements to the business in an efficient and commercial way
  • Displays an adaptable and flexible working style, remaining calm under pressure, adjusting comfortably to changing conditions/priorities
  • Creates a culture of continuous and honest feedback to develop his or herself and others
  • Proven planning and organisation skills, creating own work schedules, prioritising workload, preparing in advance and setting realistic timescales for self (and others if applicable)
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, a confident and articulate presenter to internal/external audiences. Skilled at influencing and negation, able to present key points of an argument persuasively
  • Maintain awareness of ongoing and future market-wide initiatives and collaborate effectively with legal teams across the division resolve /manage / coordinate any impact or response that may be required
  • Able to operate as an effective team member by supporting colleagues and contributing to the delivery and achievement of overall team and business objectives
  • Identifies key issues and roadblocks to efficient working practices; design and implement procedural reform
  • Ability to deal with all levels of the company and clients both internally and externally
  • Welcomes challenge and alternative perspectives, role modeling curiosity, openness, and humility to learn
