DATA: Fresh setback for Europol data sharing plans as privacy watchdog launches legal action against police agency

The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) has requested the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) to annul two provisions of Europol’s regulations concerning the processing of personal data. 

The EDPS said it has requested the CJEU to annul two provisions of the new regulation which came into force in June 2022, due to the provisions impacting “personal data operations” carried out in the past by Europol.
