Financing the Taliban, how the world’s most infamous terrorist organisation funds itself

Nearly twenty years ago US armed forces invaded Afghanistan, promising to rid the country of the much-feared Taliban, an Islamic terrorist organisation.

The Afghan war is estimated to have cost more than 200,000 lives, further savaged Afghanistan’s economy and cost the United States nearly a Trillion dollars.

In February 2020, the President Trump administration and the Taliban signed a peace agreement, which included provisions for the withdrawal of all remaining US troops from the country.
